Falling for October

Oct 1
3 min read

The start of my favorite month of the year, and the weather FINALLY broke - the rain, the cooler temps, and all the halloween decor popping up around the neighborhood has officially unlocked fall mode!

Thank you to all our friends and neighbors who sweated it out with us on Labor Day. Our longest running neighborhood event is still going strong! The Hamburger Man made all our burger dreams come true, the firemen got to actually hang, and the mayor kindly made his rounds; plus, the slide, pool area, and bike parade were all a hit. HUGE kudos to Jenny, Cameron, Ashley, Travis, and all our friends on Cumberland (and beyond) who pitched in to make this a wonderful event. We truly are better together. With Labor Day in the review mirror, we're entering our busiest season of neighborhood events. Mark your calendars and plan to join!

First up is National Night Out on Tuesday, October 6th this year - please join us on Blue Ridge from 5:30-7:30. We were a top neighborhood for attendance/our donation drive last year, and I'd love to keep that good reputation going. Diana has so kindly offered to collect donations; if you don't have time to shop for canned goods, you can venmo @clay-diana-pardue by 10/04, and we'll take care of the shopping for you. Have time to shop? Some "high-need items" are proteins (canned meats & peanut butter), baking essentials, personal hygiene items (toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, soap), and diapers. If your calendar looks anything like ours, free weekday nights are hard to come by, but we'd love to make dinner easy for you and say a quick hello to you and yours. The purpose of NNO is to promote partnerships with our community and law enforcement while also building neighborhood relationships. I'm grateful everyday to live in a community that truly knows and cares about one another, so while we have that box checked, I'd still like to celebrate with you!

WPA packs in the fun in October, and thanks to Meredith, we'll cap off the month with our annual Witches Walk on Sunday, October 25th @ 5:00. Whether you're planning to join the witches or the cuties lined up for their first dose of Halloween goodies, we look forward to seeing you - every year it just gets bigger and better!

The Beautification Committee's September Yard of the Month winner was 202 N. Waterview - cheers to the Fulbrights! The attention and care they pour into the their home is a direct reflection of the energy they both put into everything they do - we are all better for being in their orbit. We'll annouce our October winner on

the 10th this month to give our neighbors a chance to go big on their decor - look for the announcement via our neighborhood socials. As always, if you'd like to join the committee or have a suggestion for a yard that deserves a nomination, reach out to Coleen Wright.

As you can see by the Bucket List I threw together, Richardson has a busy month ahead, and we can't wait to enjoy all of it with you (and cooler temps)! All our best.
